I know about Image Processing but this is the first book i have bought.Great Book, lots of solved examples. I would recommend it without doubt.

It is Amazing. It is easy to read, and teaches the application of each algorithm and how to implement it.

It's a very good book in theoretical part, BUT the practical exercises contain many errors; I suggest an accurated revision to the next edition.

Honestly I am very surprised to see this book getting so many stars. It does have alot of information and pretty relevant as well, but the authors assume so much of the readers. You need a working understanding of abstract concepts of linear algebra and calculus. Which for me was not a good thing since I taught myself linear algebra and have many holes. I ended up googling pretty much every concept after chapter one, and understaood it better from online sources. The authors do apply a good tone for the reader but many questions are left unanswered.For example, the authors talk about eigenvalues, eigenvectors, unitary matrices and so on, but do not stop to explain the practicality of it and how it fits in the image processing espectrum. Line after line I honestly felt lost with the equations presented in the book. There are NO practical examples whatsoever.Also, the authors questions and answers way of teaching was poor. It was dull and very boring to follow along. The material has A LOT of potential if it was better explaind and better/practical examples were given. The book also moved extremely fast. If you blinked you would miss a lot of important information.UPDATE:You know what I find myself going to this book every time I need a better in-depth explanation of the subject. I am only seeing this book as a reference and that is the reason I am giving it 4 stars. I now see that the only con of this book is the author's questions and answers way of presenting the material. This book is truly full on information.

This is a book that many of us wanted to see in the market since long ago. Among all the published books on image processing only a few of them devote enough space to both theoretical fundamentals and practical issues.The mathematical principles are clearly a major concern for the authors, so they are a fundamental part of the book and are very clearly explained. Moreoever, most of the fundamental principles are presented as answers to key questions frequenty posed by anyone seeking to understand the basics of image processing, what makes the book very easy to read and undestand.Another nice distinctive characteristic of the book is the detailed explanation on practical issues and fully developed examples that allow the reader to thoroughly understand how to solve problems and how to implement the main image processing algorithms.The book covers all the topics that one expects to find in an introductory book but also some of the more important advanced topics that have proven to be indispensable for any one aiming to understand modern image processing such as singular value decomposition, independent component analysis, multispectral image processing, homgeneous and inhomogeneous image restoration, etc.

I found the author's explanations more thorough and useful than anything I could find online. Usually I'll spend about half an hour trying to learn a technique from internet sources, then I'll remember this book. It's always the last thing I need to read on a topic.If you are new to image processing, I would recommend getting the Gonzales and Woods textbook before this one. This is a little harder than Gonzales and Woods.

I found the book extremely helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.It gives the solid theoretical background of the methods and algorithms, which range from classical material to more modern techniques, like ICA, graph cuts, etc. At the same time, the book guides the reader in a step by step recipe of how to use techniques, and what to avoid. What I also found extremely useful, for teaching the topic to students, is that there are many examples, which are fully worked out with all the details. The students love it.The MATLAB code, that is included in a CD that comes with the book, is a valuable tool for experimenting with the various techniques, and helping the reader to grasp the secrets associated with the associated techniques and algorithms.Sergios TheodoridisUniversity of Athens

This book is a complete study guide that fits the needs of engineers as well as those of newcomers to the field. Its most important feature is the way the author allows students with a little background in mathematics to go through all the topics presented without getting lost or discouraged. The purpose is achieved with a simple but efficient strategy: an easy to follow level is the main body of the book and a lot of examples provide the reader with all the tools necesary to grasp the basics. The higher level material (advanced mathematics) is therefore not indispensable to actually understand Image Enhancement, Image Restoration, Preparation for Automatic Vision, and a little bit of Image Compression.
