I was really disappointed in this book. I worked in engineering and I crave knowledge. This book is a supreme disappointment. It does not contain any knowledge that cannot be obtained on the internet for free. It has some mistakes in it like telling you to drill a 7/16 hole and run a ¼ tap thru it, they mention 7/16 twice; I think they meant 7/32.None of the modifications are illustrated with pictures. The pictures themselves are poor and look like photocopies of magazine articles. The book covers 4 different families of engines and none well. Unless you have a 64 Riviera, a 70GS and a turbo regal (all three) are clueless about engines and have no knowledge of the internet and forum groups, this book is not worth buying.
really wanted and needed more info on older Nailhead engines. this book spends very little on those engines. i've found significantly more info and more in-depth info on the internet with a little searching.
How to Build Max-Performance Buick EnginesI bought the book because I am building a couple of 54 to 66 Nailheads. The book does talk about Nailheads but it's real focus is the series of motors that replaced the Nailhead in 1967. If the later motors are your bag I think you will rate the book higher than my three stars.

I was excited to find a book finally dedicated to the Buick performance engines, but after read it cover to cover, I was highly disappointed. Many of the topics seem to barely get 2 pages worth of discussion and only at the most basic level. For instance there is no inforamtion on how to set your engine timing to get the most performance out of it. The only thing I got out of the section on ignition was that HEI is better than points and Spark Boxes are better than HEI, which I think almost everyone working on an engine already knows. Also many references to Jim Burek of PAE, a Buick engine builder who scammed a lot of folks out of their hard earned money. I've enjoyed Jefferson's tech articles in various auto magazines, which left me even more perplexed as to how poor the information in this book turned out to be.As for the book itself, aside from the cover, it contains only black and white photos, and the print quality seemed very poor compared to other books in this series. It looks like it was printed using a dot matrix printer.
